TOUGH LUCK

The week before I left Jakarta Coach gave me the great honour of picking and shooting with two of their yet to be released (Now released) stylish new bomber jackets. I wanted to choose pieces that I would be able to create good content with. I chose jackets that not only looked amazing but also presented strong statements that could be interpreted by both the wearer and the viewer.

The red jacket in this post (found here) immediately  caught my attention due to its strong and bold tone along with the words "TOUGH LUCK" embroidered on the back. Seeing these words paired together on such beautiful piece begs me to ask the questions what is tough luck ? and what does it mean to be lucky?? the meaning of the words can be interpreted in many different ways. for example, people usually tell me I'm extremely lucky due to being the son of a diplomat who's gotten the opportunity to live around the world from a young age, attend the best schools, and have the ability to speak multiple languages and I can't disagree. That being said I also have aspects of my life that others may feel make me unlucky (having a disability that requires me to use the aid of a manual wheelchair on a daily basis).

In my opinion luck is subjective. I feel extremely lucky to live the life that i live. I feel especially lucky not because of the opportunities I had growing up being the child of a diplomat but because i was born with a disability that allows me to see the world in a unique way and appreciate what i do have rather than dwell on what i don't. Although it has it's fare share of hardships I wouldn't change it even if I was offered a million dollars.  I guess you could say that my disability is a form of tough luck, a luck that makes me realise just how lucky I am in life and i wouldn't have it any other way.
